Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 SP1 Public Beta Released

Microsoft announced on Monday that the first Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1) public beta is now available. Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Beta helps keep your PCs and servers on the latest support level, provides ongoing improvements to the Windows Operating System (OS), by including previous updates delivered over Windows Update as well as continuing incremental updates to the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 platforms based on customer and partner feedback, and is easy for organizations to deploy a single set of updates.
Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Beta will help you:

    * Keep your PCs supported and up-to-date
    * Get ongoing updates to the Windows 7 platform
    * Easily deploy cumulative updates at a single time
    * Meet your users' demands for greater business mobility
    * Provide a comprehensive set of virtualization innovations
    * Provide an easier Service Pack deployment model for better IT efficiency

In order to download and install the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Beta you must currently have a Release to Manufacturing (RTM) version of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 already installed.
This early release of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Beta is not available for home users. The SP1 Beta does not provide new end-user features, and installation is not supported by Microsoft. Speaking at Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference in Washington, Corporate Vice President of Windows & Windows Live - Tami Reller announced the public beta. Microsoft revealed its plans for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 last month at its annual Tech-Ed conference.

Windows 7 SP1 will include the usual hotfix patches and new virtualization tools in SP1 will help Windows Server 2008 R2 users prepare for cloud computing. SP1 will include RemoteFX which provides rich 3-D graphical experience for remote users. The service pack also will include a series of incremental updates, previously released on Windows Update for both Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. RemoteFX is a new enhancement to RDP's graphical remoting capabilities. The idea behind RemoteFX is to allow for a full remote experiences including multiple displays, Aero and multimedia streaming to all types of client devices including low cost thin clients. RemoteFX achieves this by using a technique known as host-based rendering.

This technique allows for the final screen image to be rendered locally on the remote PC after being compressed and sent down to that remote host. The enhancements are expected to greatly improve video streaming across remote sessions which is currently one of the major drawbacks of virtualized computing.

According to an early copy of Windows 7 SP1 April this year, build leaked to file sharing sites. SP1 is also rumoured to include USB 3.0 support and enhanced Bluetooth/Wi-Fi stacks but Microsoft has not yet confirmed this. Microsoft released a beta build of Windows 7 to testers earlier this month. You can get download this from This

effortless tv viewing with youtube

youTube finally unveil Leanback. Just as its name implies, YouTube Leanback is all about letting you sit back, relax and be entertained. Videos tailored to your interests play as soon as you visit the site and they play in full screen and high definition, continuously. There’s no need to click, search, or browse, unless you want to, of course. Watching YouTube becomes as easy as watching TV.

Kuan Yong, Senior Product Manager said at YouTube Blog“Luckily, YouTube Leanback wants you to conserve your energy for actually watching more videos”.

The
Leanback site is now live to anyone. You can visit it at www.youtube.com/leanback, and you’ll note that a selection of videos -- your “feed” -- plays immediately. This feed is based on your YouTube settings and preferences, including content from your subscriptions and videos your friends are sharing on Facebook (assuming you’ve connected your YouTube account to your Facebook account). You can also watch the most popular comedy, entertainment, news, or more. And if you don’t care for the video that’s playing, use the right arrow key on your keyboard to skip ahead to the next video, or try the up/down arrows to search, access player controls, and browse channels and videos. You won’t need your mouse for this experience.

While Leanback really shines on big-screen TVs, especially with HD videos, it works just as well on desktops or laptops. The UI is minimal and doesn’t really need any mouse input. You can use your mouse, of course, but you could just as easily use your keyboard or multimedia remote. There are several other elements that transform the experience. The videos start playing straight away after loading the site and in full screen. When one ends the next in the playlist starts without any input from the user. Playlist is automatically generated based on what YouTube thinks you’ll like.

This isn’t the first time YouTube has tried something like this, but it seems the most promising move to date. And Google is putting all its weight behind this; it will be a central part of Google TV which is coming later this year. YouTube Leanback is currently in beta. Here’s more about how YouTube Leanback works:
